Get Your Mud On
You may remember reading a blog called 'G' Force ~ well she's back! As I mentioned 'G' had asked if I would be interested in doing a mud obstacle course if she were to sign up for one. Well since she had already signed up, we participated, and boy did it get muddy. Each obstacle has 4 options: walk around, easy, middle of the road and tough. It is up to each person to select which obstacle option they feel safe doing. We usually went with the middle of the road. Keep in mind, when you are going through the obstacle course you are most likely wet and muddy. Sounds like fun ~ let's begin.
The Water
There is no way around it you are going to get wet and muddy usually at the first or second obstacle. The obstacle may be a plastic tube or inflated tube from one side of the water to the other and you have to go under it ~ hold your breath, head in the water, go under the obstacle and pop up on the other side. You may think, what if I want to go over the obstacle? That's alright ~ climb up, over and hold your breath as you land back in the water. Did I mention sometimes the water may be in a large container that includes ice ~ burr. And let's not forget the buggy wash sprayer that shoots water at you as you blindly try to navigate through the spraying water and swinging tires hanging at various levels ~ kind of like dodgeball with lots of spraying water.
The Walls
There are a variety of wall type obstacles. Some are walls with sporadically placed steps to assist your climb up, over and down ~ hence the word sporadically. Next you may have a ramp like wall with fewer sporadically placed steps, but they added a rope to assist your climb up, over and down. Then you have the steep ramp like wall with no sporadically placed steps and just a rope to assist your climb, but you usually get to slide down after all that hard work. One phrase could be heard at every wall obstacle and that was ~ Push my butt! Remember I said be careful what you wish for ~ well I wished for a shirt that said, 'Push my Butt'. You guessed it, 'G' Force made that shirt for me which I proudly wore and was the hit of the mud obstacle courses ~ LOL
The Ropes
The ropes can go many ways. A rope ladder and they are not easy at all to climb up or down. You may have a rope with knots in it ~ can you say upper body strength! The safety net style rope is always interesting because it sags on the up and downside and much like the rope ladder it sways with your every move ~ especially if you're carrying a 5 or 10-pound bag of sand. Lastly you have the parallel to the ground ropes, think that sounds easy, it's not. The squares are not as big as the other rope obstacles, and they are pulled tight, so they don't sway with your every trip ~ LOL
The Mud
What is there to say ~ it's a mud obstacle course so yes there is mud. There is usually mud, water and repeat that throughout the course. Typically, there is more mud at the end of the course. The last obstacle may be a slippery mud wall that you have to claw your way up only to slide down the other side (not on a clean slide here). You proceed to belly crawl under barbed wire through muddy water then run towards the finish line where you may be rewarded with a cool medal and an ice-cold Michelob Ultra (if you want one & your old enough).
It was the aforementioned last set of mud obstacles that hubby and I became famous. After we belly crawled under the barbed wire through the muddy water where we paused to share a kiss before running to the finish line. Just at that moment someone took our picture, and we were famous showing up on Facebook and mud websites with captions like 'Love in the Mud' or 'Mud is for Lovers'.
