Holidays ~ Simplified
I remember I used to ask my parents... 'What do you want for Christmas?' They would say... 'We don't need anything, let's just have dinner together.' I used to feel compelled to buy them something. What I never understood until later was time spent together holds more value than any gift. Not sure why that was such a hard concept to grasp ~ because growing up, it was all about family time.
Now that I am older, I find myself saying the same thing. I even say it to the younger folks in my life and I'm sure they may not completely understand the concept (yet), but they roll with it, and I am thankful for that. It's funny because when we are having our holiday quality time, they are enjoying themselves and that means a lot to me.
So, this holiday season as you're pondering what to get that person who has everything (lol), is hard to buy for, or that may be a younger or older person in your life, try approaching it from a simpler point of view.
Set up a lunch or dinner with them, you don't have to necessarily pay for it, it is just about some quality time spent together and if you each pay for your own meal it's almost like buying a meal for each other 😊
It doesn't have to be lunch or dinner; it could just be spending some time together. Pick a place to relax and catch up without interruptions and give them your undivided attention.
What if the person doesn't live close by? Why not give them a call, not a text but an actual phone call. If the person is older, they may really appreciate you giving them a call.
In this day and age, we take photos on our phones but to share them would be a great gift. Find recent or older picture of ya'all, maybe write a message on the back, and frame it for them ~ that would show how much you enjoy having them in your life.
If you don't have a photo to share, take a moment to write a note telling the person how much you appreciate them. It doesn't have to be mushy, just sincere, from your heart.
You could try your hand at baking some cookies to share with friends and family ~ yummy.
Still at a loss? Do you have a favorite recipe? Well, why not handwrite it out on a card (of some sort) and share it with someone you care about. It doesn't have to be fancy ~ just taste good.
Okay, this is going old school, but you could make something for them. What you say? You don't have to be creative ~ athink simple. A bit of greenery or sticks, a few ornaments and you could make a wreath. Shells are to make ornaments, with rocks you could make great snowmen, pinecones are almost a gift unto themselves ~ with some glue and glitter anything is possible 😊
If you're still at a loss, how about a fun, thoughtful card with a bag of glitter.
Tis' the season the be a bit wild,
And release our inner child.
We'll sprinkle glitter in the yard at night,
For the moon to make them sparkle bright.
So, as the reindeer fly and roam,
They'll be able to see our home.
Peace and Love
