Vacations
Summertime, a time we think about taking a vacation. Planning a vacation for ourselves can be stressful enough, imagine planning a 2-week, 6 couples, 15 plus kids of various ages vacation - every year and by the way you are driving to your destination. Back then there was no Google maps or electronic devices to occupy the kids and no Disney World in Florida - yet. Well, that is how we vacationed for as many years as I can remember.
My parents were one of the six couples who laughed and played cards on Saturday nights, alternating between each other's homes ~ referring to themselves as The Card Club. They continued to play cards, started vacationing together and eventually having us kids. Let's just say that having us kids did not deter them from playing cards or vacationing together ~ hence our caravan of cars traveling to our vacation destination.
Here are some of my youthful observations of these fabulous fun filled vacations:
It didn't seem as if we had any trouble getting into restaurants ~ table for 20 plus - please. We all ate good, and no one seemed to be dieting... 😊
I don't remember any fights ~ only crushes. My younger brother had a crush on one of the older girls.
Much like Christmas Eve, parents putting toys together, that's what happened with our beach toys ~ all blown up and ready for play. Funny thing is, I don’t remember ever bringing them home with us.
Moms looked like moms. Rafts were rectangular, standard 6 color beach balls, sandcastles were simple - sand in a bucket, turn in over ~ wala a sandcastle!
Our parents didn't watch us kids play in the water; they were in the water playing with us ~ no cell phones or electronic devices back then - just kids and parents!
No matter how many times you rinsed us off, there was still sand everywhere.
As the sun went down so did us kids. In the evenings our parents rested, laughed and conversed over cocktails, all the while preparing for the next kid and sand filled day 😊
Peace and Love
