Paper or Voice
How did we ever arrive at our destinations before Siri, Alexa or Google maps. 😃
Well, we got out the old paper map to route our travels. We tended to select the most direct route to our destination ~ no back road. And sometimes there weren't many options to get from point A to point B. We had maps that were referred to as referred to as trip-tips, they focused mainly on the route you were traveling and were easier to read than a regular map. Of course, They could only indicate the construction in areas for that time and neither can tell you about road congested traffic areas ~ as Google maps can today. Who did we travel 😊
Now we have Siri/Alexa or whatever name your mapping device may be called, we call ours 'Lilly'. We plug in our starting point then our destination. Unlike a paper map we can tell her if we want to avoid major highways, toll roads and just about anything else. Once programed we begin our journey. Lilly would tell us all the things we would need to know on our travels ~ severe curves, icy roads, speed traps, etc.
And whether a paper or voice activated map you can still get lost but with a paper map it was easier for it to go unnoticed. However, with the voice activated system, if we miss our trun or exit we would hear - 'In 200 feet make a U turn' or everyone’s favorite 're-calculating'. We heard that so many times in our travels I dubbed my hubby ~ 'Uie Stewie'. 🙃
