F.U.C.K
When I was growing up in the early 60’s, we would get in trouble for saying… ‘You’re so fruit.’ Fruit was considered a bad word ~ our version of the f-word. Fruit went from meaning a piece of fruit, to a chump, then a crazy person, gay slang and back to a piece of fruit. Heck, even my daddy had his own version of the f-word. We knew that something was up, someone was in trouble or things just weren’t going good for him when we heard him say … ‘Ah balls Willa’ 😊
Today there’s a whole new f-word and each of us has our own version of it that we prefer to use ~ furk, frack, feck, fokken, freak, frick, flip just to name a few. And today, the f-word is used so frequently and sometimes by people you wouldn’t expect. That got me wondering what is behind the meaning of the word so many of us love to use.
The Oxford English Dictionary states that the ultimate origin is uncertain, but that the word is associated with a number of Germanic words with meanings involving striking, rubbing, and having sex or is derivative of the Old French word that meant 'to have sex'.
The modern usage and flexibility of fuck was established by the mid-to-late 19th century and hasn’t really changed since. Most literally, to fuck is to have sex, but it is also used as a more general expletive or intensifier. Example: What are you doing vs. What the fuck are you doing. The latter takes on a more aggressive vibe than the first.
The word "Fuck" is a non-formal word. It was once believed that the word was used only by people who were grown up and understood the meaning. Then we began to incorporate the word into lyrics of certain songs and before we knew it, “Fuck” was everywhere.
The Greeks used the middle finger as an explicit reference to the male genitalia. The middle finger gesture was used in ancient times as a symbol the penis was interested in having sexual intercourse.
Showing someone your middle finger gives them a clear sign that you dislike them and/or do not find them worthy of your respect. It is meant to offend and insult.
The F-word is much older in the language than the word sex, and in fact the latter was imported into the language to avoid using the former one. Better to say… Let’s have sex than Let’s fuck 😊
Speaking of having sex ~ just where did it all begin? The word "F.U.C.K" originated in the United Kingdom. In ancient times in the United Kingdom, the folks were not allowed to have sexual intercourse without permission from the King. They must apply for permission to the kingdom if they wish to have children. After that, the royal party will give "Signs / Cards" to hang on the door of the couple during their relationship. The sign reads "Fornication Under Consent of the King" aka F.U.C.K. 😊😊
